Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) is the most famous researcher on current artificial intelligence. He is currently working on building a conscious machine that combines information on all kinds of content with the wide range of human emotions. The fact is always involved in controversial projects made Caster gain notoriety, but at the same time became the enemy number one of extermistas who are against the advancement of technology - and therefore try to stop him at all costs. Only one day, after an assassination attempt, Caster convinces his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and his best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany) to test his new invention himself. But the big question is not whether they can do this, but if they should take this step.

Transcendênce é o primeiro filme que fez Wally Pfister, diretor de fotografia de quase todos os filmes de Christopher Nolan.
