Appleseed follow in the path of Deuna Knutz and his partner, the cyborg Briareos. Both live in an Earth after third war where nuclear weapons were never used, but does not mean that the damage was minor. The result was no winner and a totally devastated Earth. To try to rebuild, mankind built a utopian city called Olympus, and created artificial human called Bioroids. The main difference between the human and the Bioroids lies in the fact that they are not able to feel envy, anger or hatred, which, unlike humans, avoids the risks of wars between the Bioroids.

It turns out that the number of human is getting smaller in relation to Bioroids and humanity, which still commands the military, begins to hate their copies generated in the laboratory and acts of hatred become commonplace. Something approaching human relationship / mutants seen in X-Men. In this scenario, Deuna and Briareos are part of the E-Swat, a special division of the police which takes care of crap that crafty humans and some rebels Bioroids.
